Living in North Texas, I don’t get many opportunities to enjoy freshly caught fish from the ocean, so when my friend returned from a fishing trip with a beautiful striped bass fillet for me, it felt like a special gift.
I’d never tasted striped bass before, but I was immediately impressed. The flesh is firm yet flaky, with a clean, mild flavor that pairs beautifully with bold seasonings. This simple Cajun preparation lets the fish shine while adding just enough spice, butter, garlic, and fresh lemon to make it unforgettable.
Ingredients
1 pound striped bass fillet (or another firm white fish)
2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning
2 tablespoons butter
2 garlic cloves, grated
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
¼ cup sliced green onions
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
Directions
Preheat the broiler to the medium setting.
Place the fish in a baking dish. Spread the grated garlic evenly over the surface of the fillet.
Season with the Cajun seasoning, salt, and black pepper.
Cut the butter into thin slices and arrange them over the fish. Drizzle with the lemon juice.
Broil on the center rack for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the fish flakes easily with a fork and reaches an internal temperature of 145°F.
Garnish with the sliced green onions and serve with additional lemon wedges, if desired.
